AI-powered finished leather inspection
Mindhive FinishSelect™ detects and maps defects on finished hides in 15 seconds, with 0.17mm precision across 20+ defect classes. Digital defect data that transforms how you grade, sell, and cut.

The highest-stakes quality call

At the finished stage, the commercial stakes are at their peak. The hide has been through dozens of processes, each adding cost. A defect missed here does not just reduce margin. It reaches the customer.
Manual finished leather inspection is slow, subjective, and difficult to scale. A trained grader takes 7 to 10 minutes to mark a hide. Results vary by person, by shift, and by the pressure to keep pace with production targets. Defects that are invisible at wet-blue may now be visible. New defects introduced during finishing may be misclassified.
For automotive, upholstery, luxury, and other high-specification applications, the consequences are especially acute. Buyers require documented evidence that each hide meets their exact specification. Without objective, repeatable inspection data, tanneries absorb the risk.
What is Mindhive FinishSelect™?
Mindhive FinishSelect™ is an AI-powered finished leather inspection system that automates defect detection and digital defect mapping. It scans each hide in 15 seconds with 0.17mm defect resolution, detecting and classifying 20+ defect classes and producing a full-hide digital defect map for every hide.
FinishSelect™ uses the same machine vision approach as BlueSelect™, adapted for the characteristics of finished surfaces. The neural network has been primarily trained on automotive-grade finished leather, where defect tolerance is lowest, and is designed to expand into other finished leather applications as the defect catalog grows.
The system is available as a standalone inspection station or as part of the Dectura integrated workflow, where defect data flows directly into Mind nesting software and Zünd cutting systems.

BlueSelect™ + FinishSelect™ :
the intelligence loop
When both BlueSelect™ and FinishSelect™ are deployed at the same tannery, the data tells a connected story. Defects detected at wet-blue can be tracked through to the finished stage. Patterns emerge: which raw material sources produce the best finished yields, which processes introduce new defects, and where the biggest quality gaps sit.
Wet-blue data informs finished leather outcomes. Finished leather outcomes refine wet-blue grading rules. Over time, the tannery builds a data-driven understanding of how raw material quality flows through to the final product.
This intelligence loop is what turns grading data into continuous improvement.
Most finished leather inspection is still done manually, taking 7 to 10 minutes per hide. FinishSelect™ completes the same assessment in seconds with a consistent, documented result. The defect map, grade, and inspection report create a quality record that travels with the hide.
FinishSelect™ is built on the same machine vision platform as BlueSelect™, which has graded over 20 million hides globally. For tanneries running both systems, the combination creates something no manual process can: a digital defect map at wet-blue and a digital defect map at finished for the same hide. That pairing enables deep analysis of how raw material quality flows through to the final product, and refinement of grading decisions at both stages.
See every defect, optimize every hide for cutting.
Two ways to bring FinishSelect™ into your operation
Standalone inspection station
The defect detection and digital defect mapping system integrated into an existing production line. Hides are inspected and the defect map and grade are displayed on screen and recorded in Mindhive Cloud. Suited to tanneries that want to add objective inspection data to their finished leather workflow, including those with existing cutting equipment. Manufactured and installed by Zünd.

Dectura unified workflow
Hides are routed to automated nesting, using the defect map to optimize panel placement and material yield, before cutting. Digital defect maps replace chalk marking, eliminating post-cut cleaning. This end-to-end workflow connects quality data to production decisions in a single pass, reducing post-cut rejects. Dectura uses Zünd cutting hardware.
